I got a box of paints

by Van Gogh

in Etten

Beginning of October

I want to tell you what I’ve done since I last wrote to you. First of all, two large drawings (chalk and some sepia) of Pollard willows, something like the sketch below.

Weg met knotwilgen

Also the same, but vertical, of Leurseweg. Then I had a model a couple of times, digger and basket-maker. And then last week I got a box of paints from Uncle Cent that is rather good, certainly good enough to start with (the paint is from Paillard). And I’m very glad to have it.

I love this image – so fresh and immediate. It reminds me of home where pollarded trees just like these line the streeets near the house. Having just bought a lino cutting kit from the van Gogh Museum shop I am inspired to go out into the streets with my children to create some images based on them.

I so look forward in seeing these letters and scetches next to his finished works of art! The exhibition should be very interesting and unique!
